From the 22nd to the 24th February 2011 the Photovoltaic Power Generation Conference & Exhibition, called SNEC, is held for the 5th time at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai. At this well-established industrial event, 1600 exhibitors from 60 different countries on 150,000 square meters exhibition area expect a multitude of trade visitors and representatives from all over the world.
Solar energy continues to belong to the international future and emerging markets. Solely innovative products and solutions with a measurable user value secure the competitive capacity of manufacturers of photovoltaic products. At the exhibition stand of the SNEC 2011 the team of the internationally operating Arnold Gruppe, based in Weilburg/Germany, elucidates practice-oriented machines and solutions for the production of silicon blocks. Arnold’s core competence in the segment of photovoltaic lies in the area of mechanical separation, grinding and polishing of mono- and multi-crystalline silicon ingots and blocks.
Next to innovative single-machines Arnold also offers complete machining centres and customized complete-systems including the automatic linkage of the various production processes and intelligent production management systems. Arnold hereby lays the emphasis on the innovative thin-blade technology with newly developed saw-blade guidance. Compared with other suppliers, which work with up to four millimetres cutting width, Arnold provides, with a reduction to mere 1.5 to 1.7 millimetres, an enormous saving of the valuable silicon material. Meanwhile Arnold does not only use the thin-blade technology for cropping, but has also integrated it into their squaring machines. Arnold scores with its new “batch cut process”, during which two parallel arranged cutting discs in thin-blade technology process up to five blocks in one work step. This way the productions costs can be reduced by approximately 30 percent per block in comparison to formerly known processes.
Arnolds previously introduced and in the market already established grinding machines have been developed further. Due to additional features the new grinding machines achieve a substantially higher level of productivity compared with the predecessor models; compared with other machines common on the market, up to 70 percent cutbacks on the cycle times are possible – which leads to a tremendous saving of investment and produc-tion costs. Arnold’s efficient machines are not only very robust, but also excel by economical energy consumption, ease of servicing and a long life-time. Optionally available for all Arnold machines: the powerful database based and via web-browser controllable software tool Arpat® designed by Arnold for the acquisition, analysis and storage of the process data provided by the machine.

Herbert Arnold GmbH & Co. KG, founded 1950 in Weilburg/Germany, is one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of burners, tools and machines as well as ready-to-use systems for customers in the area of photovoltaic, glass and quartz glass processing, fibre-optic and the automotive production. The core competence in the area of photovoltaics is the mechanic cutting and grinding/polishing of poly-, mono and multi-crystalline silicon-ingots and blocks. Traditional values and experiences are the base of thermal and mechanical glass production which, next to a wide range of burners and tools are nowadays also incorporated into the solar thermal glass tube production. The Arnold Gruppe consists of the following companies: Herbert Arnold GmbH & Co. KG, Helmich Automationstechnik (1998); B&C (2005) und Heathway Ltd. (2004). The foundation stone was laid by Herbert Arnold. The realisation of innovative production technologies for glass and later for quartz glass processing, turned the one-man company within a short time into an enterprise with an international reputation. The Arnold Gruppe nowadays employs over 170 employees and exports to all the key markets of the world.
